Cotillion dances are still popular in the south. We attend classes during our youth to reinforce the good manners we learned at home. We work on our social interaction with others, and we learn to formally dance in public. My mind goes back decades when young girls wore gold lame tea length dresses and large bows. The shoes and purses always matched and it seemed everyone had shiny bauble earrings. Our dances were never stuffy. They were fun, glittery and always displayed a bit of humor. Our Cotillion tablescape captures the whimsical, yet formal side of these timeless traditions reminding each of us not to take life too seriously.
